About Us

The City of Frankenmuth celebrated its 50th Anniversary as a City on October 1, 2009.  In the past fifty years, City leadership has helped grow Frankenmuth from a self-sufficient village in eastern Saginaw County to one of Michigan's premier tourism destinations.  Working closely with the business community, the City continues to support economic development initiatives with development-friendly policies and funding, providing a good environment for business start-ups, expansions and general growth.

The City’s commitment to development of a long-range economic plan supported the creation of, the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) in 1999.    The EDC focuses on the non-residential areas of the City of Frankenmuth and areas within the Urban Limit Line, a unique area defined by the Frankenmuth City Township Master Growth PlanThe EDC removes obstacles for businesses looking to invest in Frankenmuth.

In the mid 1980’s, the City of Frankenmuth created a Downtown Development Authority to provide for the economic well-being of its commercial core.  Enabled by Michigan Public Act 197 of 1975, the DDA is empowered to plan, implement and promote economic growth within its district. The downtown development district  includes the development-ready areas of Main Street (M83) and Weiss Street.

Development Services for the City of Frankenmuth are provided by sister organizations, the Downtown Development Authority and the Economic Development Corporaton.   Our office is located in Frankenmuth City Hall at 240 W. Genesee Street, in Frankenmuth.

City Township Government Center in FrankenmuthCelebrating its 50th Anniversary on October 1, 2009, the City of Frankenmuth is proud of its position as economic center, community center and hometown.  With an effective and stable city government, a strong relationship with neighboring Frankenmuth Township and good communications between elected leaders, business leaders and residents, Frankenmuth maximizes all of its resources offering many opportunities to its residents not usually found found in cities with a population slightly less than 5000.
