Recreation in Frankenmuth is baseball and much, much more! Year-round recreational opportunities in sports and fitness, music and dancing, education and entertainment fill the city’s playbill. Sports & Fitness Individual and team sports opportunities are available through the City of Frankenmuth Parks & Rec Department, the local school district, tournaments, leagues and athletic clubs in a variety of venues serving a variety of ages. In the warmer months, organized opportunities for children and adults include baseball, soccer, football, softball, golf and many others. In the cooler seasons, the City of Frankenmuth Parks & Rec Department offers indoor recreational programs including volleyball and basketball leagues.
Fitness-minded residents appreciate a world-class exercise facility that offers full service, personal training and coaching, as well as dozens of state of the art exercise machines supporting cardio-vascular health and strength-training. Music & Dance From local choirs and church-affiliated bands to nationally-known pop culture musical headliners at special events, Frankenmuth’s residents enjoy music and dancing all year round. Youth, young adult and adult choirs and instrumental bands provide music liturgies for area church services. Most local churches include traditional music or more current gospel rhythms for singing and/or for instruments. The Gemuetlichkeit Club, a German-style Men’s Choir, entertains at community functions. In German, Gemuetlichkeit is loosely translated as hospitality. 
Nothing is more enjoyable on a beautiful summer Sunday evening, than a visit to the Palmer Schau Haus (Show House) for a night of music. The ampitheater, a special project of the Women’s Club, can accommodate thousands of people in the natural ampitheater setting. Lawn chair and blanket seating has welcomed the likes of popular tribute bands (playing Abba and Johnny Cash) and recording artists including Herman’s Hermits and Gary Lewis and the Playboys. Weekend Festivals of music and dance begin with Zehnder’s Snowfest in January through to the traditional Oktoberfest (celebrated in September). The blockbuster calendar of events includes ice carving, classic cars, antique fire trucks, dogs, hot air balloons, bicycling, farming and concerts. Education Frankenmuth Public Schools’ Community Education department features various activities throughout the year, allowing residents to learn a new skill or brush up on one they already enjoy. The Frankenmuth Historical Association features special displays and programming about Frankenmuth life, through the ages and now. Schools have many opportunities to do hands-on learning about life as an early settler; those who tour the Museum can walk through the impressive permanent display or the rotating historical displays. Frankenmuth’s Wickson District Library has launched the One Community-One Book program, provides access to valuable geneology research materials, and hosts very popular children’s, youth and adult programming. 
Entertainment Anchored by landmark restaurants, dining options in Frankenmuth are plentiful. Resident epicures appreciate the incredible food choices, local breweries and taverns, a winery, and cheese and sausage markets. Restaurants also offer outdoor dining opportunities and nightly entertainment in the warmer months. |
